The thermal boundary resistance at boundaries between monocrystalline sapphire and monocrystalline aluminum and between monocrystalline sapphire and polycrystalline aluminum has been measured in the temperature range from 0.1 to 6 K with aluminum in the superconducting and normal states. The ratio of the thermal boundary resistance of the aluminum monocrystals in the superconducting state to that in the normal state increases as the temperature is lowered, reaches a maximum at about 0.13 K, and decreases at still lower temperatures. At the maximum, the thermal boundary resistance in the superconducting state is two orders of magnitude larger than the resistance in the normal state.
