Mechanism of dissociative and double photoionization in CO

The dissociative and double ionization of CO is investigated, differentiating the branching ratios observed in mass spectroscopy by Masuoka and Samson (1981) with respect to incident photon energy in the range from threshold to 130 eV to obtain plots (differential spectra) which represent a new type of photoion spectroscopy. The results are presented graphically and in tables listing possible configurations producing C(+), C(2+), and O(+) in CO. It is shown that the multielectron bands and double-ionization states observed in Auger spectra are important in the production of fragmented ions. 34 references.
