Charged-particle motion in magnetic cusp systems with a strong transverse electric field

The paths traced out by charged particles in a cusped magnetic field in a strong transverse electrostatic field have been studied analytically and numerically. The calculation model is a single-gap electromagnetic system. The electric field in the plasma substantially improves the ion confinement in the system. The effect is most marked in axial apertures.
