Hydrogenation of n-butyraldehyde on copper-containing catalysts. I. Reaction kinetics in the steady-state region

The kinetics of the hydrogenation of n-butyraldehyde was investigated on copper-containing catalysts at 100-200/degree/C. A kinetic equation was found, kinetic isotope effects when H/sub 2/ was replaced by D/sub 2/ were measured, and a step-by-step scheme is offered; the scheme specifies surface interaction of the starting components with the addition of a second adsorbed hydrogen in the slow step.
