Greenhouse scare reheats nuclear debate
Journal Article

Both global warming and a nuclear power remedy have been studied and debated since the mid sixties, both by scientists and policy analysts. The author reviews some of the more pertinent of these, as well as congressional hearings and government and presidential advisory committee reports, etc. Also, he notes that others have pointed out that nuclear power would make only a small contribution to slowing global warming, and advocate investing in energy efficiency or renewable energy as being both more feasible technically and less expensive. He cites the World Energy Conference in Montreal, Fall 1989, as the most recent connection of global warming and nuclear power revival, with speaker after speaker citing nuclear power as the cure for the greenhouse effect, but others saying more efficient electrical and electronic consumer products would make increased nuclear power unnecessary. 10 refs.
