Model for superconductivity in graphite intercalation compounds

The observed superconductivity in the stage-1 graphite--alkali-metal intercalation compounds (GIC's) is modeled using both graphite ..pi.. bands and intercalate s bands. The anisotropy observed in the superconducting properties is explained in terms of the anisotropy of the Fermi surfaces of the GIC's.
