Spokane Resource Management Plan, Spokane, Washington
Implementation of a resource management plan is proposed for 307,603 acres of public land in the Spokane District, Washington. The preferred alternative would implement timber harvesting on 44,443 acres with a sustained yield of 3.98 million board feet annually. Minor forest products would be sold where consistent with other resource values. Grazing management would continue on 232,970 acres at a level of 30,073 animal unit months. Oil, gas, and geothermal leasing, mineral entry and development, and utility and transportation corridor development would be allowed on most lands, with the exception of designated wilderness areas. Wildlife and fish habitat would be maintained or improved, and soil, water, and air resources would be protected. Approximately 23,000 acres would be identified for acquisition through land exchanges with the state of Washington and private parties over the next four year. Approximately 9000 acres of public land would be offered to facilitate these exchange. Exchanges and transfers to other federal agencies would take place when natural resource values would benefit.
