Flashlamp pumping systems for dye lasers (review)

The elements of flashlamp pumping systems for dye lasers, including laser cells, flashlamps, discharge circuits, and laser reflectors in lasers with longitudinal and transverse pumping of the dye and also in lasers with high pulse repetition frequencies, are described. The problems associated with the appearance of different types of inhomogeneities, produced by the characteristic features of lamp-pumping of dyes, in the active medium are analyzed and the methods employed to neutralize them are described. The best parameters of lamp-pumped dye lasers, achieved thus far in research and development, are indicated.
