Sampling techniques are important for accuracy

Gas Digest's survey on gas sampling shows that sampling of gas streams ordinarily is conducted by gathering or transmission companies; utilities generally rely on their supplier to test the gas delivered. Problems in sampling were cited in the areas of ensuring sample validity, preventing contamination from entrained liquids, and securing a composite sample over an expanded time interval. Of primary importance to the final analysis is the proper purging of the sample cylinder prior to taking the sample. A predominant use of gas sampling is in the determination of heat content.
