Credibility of cost estimates for mass-produced heliostats
Five analysis approaches are applied to the McDonnell Douglas second generation prototype heliostat capital cost estimates in an attempt either to justify or to discredit them. The estimates are not discredited by any of these approaches, so they are accepted as credible. A range of credible costs is calculated based on the analyses. This range is $100/m/sup 2//R to $60/m/sup 2//R for unit number 350,000 at 25,000/y production rate.
