Actuation indicator for downhole tools
An indicator apparatus for use in conjunction with operating downhole tools is described, comprising: a body member adapted to be connected to actuator means; an elongated actuating rod supported on the body member; arresting means mounted on the body member and movable from a retracted position to an extended position for engaging the surface to arrest movement of the apparatus; a latch member connected to the actuating rod and engageable with the arresting means for retaining the arresting means in a retracted position in the first position of the actuating rod, the latch member being movable with the actuating rod to permit movement of the arresting means toward the extended position; plunger means responsive to movement of the actuating rod; and spring means disposed on the apparatus for urging the plunger means toward engagement with the arresting means for moving the arresting means from the retracted position to the extended position for engaging the surface, the plunger means and the spring means being cooperable with the arresting means to permit movement of the arresting means toward the retracted position upon movement of the apparatus in the opposite direction.
