Search for the knockout of deuterons from carbon nuclei by 4. 3 GeV/c protons. [Differential cross sections]

A search was made for deuteron knockout from carbon nuclei using 4.3 MeV/c protons. The secondary-particle momentum spectra was measured and is shown. Differential cross sections are also shown together with those of comparison nuclear targets. The momentum dependence of R, the ratio of the differential cross section of the quasielastic deuteron knockout from carbon to the elastic deuteron production in p - d scattering at 0/sup 0/, is also shown. It is noted that the differential cross section for the quasielastic deuteron knockout decreases about a hundred times in the interval p/sub 0/ from 1.3 to 4.3 GeV/c. At the same time the change of R is limited to a factor of three. 11 references. (JFP)
