Fischer-Tropsch-Synthesis in slurry phase was studied on a precipitated Fe catalyst promoted with K. Different batches of catalysts were used in 2.5 and 5 cm diameter bubble column reactors. Data reproducibility was found to be fairly good. The measured conversions could be evaluated on the basis of a reactor model proposed recently and by assuming a simple first order kinetics for H/sub 2/. It is suspected that such a rate law applies also up to high conversions provided the water gas shift activity of the catalyst is large and the H/sub 2//CO inlet ratio is similar to usage ratio (Iapprox. =U). The catalyst applied and operation in slurry phase are exceptionally able to convert syngas of low H/sub 2/ content, i.e. from second generation gasifiers with H/sub 2//COapprox. =0.6.
