Probabilistic discrete ordinates method for transport calculations in complex geometry
- Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, Moscow (Russian Federation)
The probabilistic method of discrete ordinates (PMDO) may be considered as a deterministic approach for precise transport calculations in nuclear systems with complicated geometric configurations. The main feature of this method is that it combines and generalizes the best features and advantages of both the discrete ordinates and the collision probability methods from the point of view of accurate description of the space-angle dependence of neutron distributions. The PMDO is a multipurpose method that allows the calculation of the microstructure of the neutron field in local domains and uses this basis for global core calculation. Also, it is natural for it to take into account voids and highly anisotropic neutron scattering.
