Alpha transfer reactions in heavy nuclei. [Resumes and conclusions on previous work]

Conference · · AIP (Am. Inst. Phys.) Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5874168
Some previous work on alpha transfer reactions in lead isotopes using the reactions (/sup 16/O,/sup 12/C) is considered, and also the decay /sup 212/Po..-->.. /sup 208/Pb + ..cap alpha... Spectra, angular distributions, and the resonance-state wave functions are shown. It is concluded that these transfer reactions indeed proceed predominantly via the one-step transfer of a ground-state alpha particle, although in some other reactions this may not be the case. Some work on an attempt to find a simple alpha vibration mode of nuclear excitation based on the pairing vibration, and some progress on an attempt to obtain absolute reduced widths so as to measure whether there is sufficient alpha clustering in the surface of lead region nuclei are mentioned. 15 references.
