Alpha-cluster model of low-density nuclear matter. [Jastrow trial wave functions, hypernetted chain method, nuclear surface densities]

The ground-state energy expectation value of infinite alpha-particle matter is calculated for Jastrow trial wave functions by the hypernetted-chain method. The results for the Ali--Bodmer S-wave alpha--alpha potential indicate a strong tendency toward alpha clustering at nuclear surface densities. 12 references.
