Sizing/calculating 50 to 200 horsepower individual well compressors
A sizing/calculating method for 50 to 200 hp individual well compressors is presented. Sizing calculations are made to illustrate the method for both rotary sliding vane and reciprocating compressors. The method requires knowledge of the specific gravity of the gas to be compressed, the K value of the gas, gas volume, gas inlet temperature, gas inlet and discharge pressure, and site elevation. After determining the K value of gas, the total ratio of compression is determined. Then, the theoretical discharge temperature is calculated to see if single stage compression is acceptable. An equation or published flow chart is used to find the estimated compressor horsepower. Then, the actual cubic feet per minute at inlet conditions of pressure and temperature is calculated. These results are then used to determine the approximate compressor cylinder displacement required to handle the calculated actual cubic feet per minute. Finally, the displacement and horsepower figures are used to specify appropriate equipment.
