A rigorous solution is obtained for the problem of plane electromagnetic wave diffraction by a wedge in a magnetoactive plasma. The external permanent magnetic field is applied along an edge; one of the wedge faces is electrically conductive while the other is magnetically conductive. If the primary wave is a surface wave being propagated along the electrically conductive face, then for a no-loss system a so-called thermodynamic paradox is possible. Conditions for occurrence of the paradox are in agreement with the plasma parameter domain in which the condition at the edge is spoiled. Compliance with the condition on the edge is a criterion for the physical foundation of theoretical models of scattering objects with a sharp edge.
