Structure of the H/sub 2/O maser source in W3 OH

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. Lett. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5867917
The structure of the H/sub 2/O maser complex in the object W3 OH was investigated with the global radio-interferometry network at three epochs in 1976--1977, including a period of rapid spectral changes. A multiple fringe-rate mapping technique is used to determine the relative position of individual compact sources and to track their time variations in detail. The sources are distributed along an arc of about Oapprox..5 (2 x 10/sup 16/ cm) radius; most are concentrated within a region Oapprox..05 across. The variability of the individual sources probably reflects changes in the pumping level at particular points in the maser region.
