A generalized approach to the use of continuous distribution approximation for generating capacity reliability evaluation is presented. The well known Gram-Charlier's expression is shown to be a special case of this general formulation. Using this formulation, any continuous distribution function can be examined for its suitability for modeling generation systems. The results obtained by using two and three parameter gamma distribution functions with this approach are compared with those from the normal model or Gram-Charlier's expansion.
