Rope protection system prevents slack and overloads

Hoists used to transport personnel and material in mine shafts must operate safely, despite heavy loading and a hostile environment. To prevent unsafe conditions, the Bureau of Mines has developed an instrumentation package that mine operators can put together to monitor the hoist operation continuously. This article describes how the system works.
