Heterometallic aluminum alkoxides. The characterization of [l brace]Mg[Al(OPr[sup i])[sub 4]][sub 2][r brace][sub n] and Mg[sub 2]Al[sub 3](OPr[sup i])[sub 13]

While [open quotes]Mg[Al(OPr[sup i])[sub 4]][sub 2][close quotes] has been used and is marketed as an oxide precursor, even the exact composition of this substance is uncertain. In fact, Mg[Al(OPr[sup i])[sub 4]][sub 2] is in equilibrium with its dimer, [l brace]Mg[Al(OPr[sup i])[sub 4]][sub 2][r brace][sub 2], and with Mg[sub 2]Al[sub 3](OPr[sup i])[sub 13]. The X-ray structure of Mg[sub 2]Al[sub 3](OPr[sup i])[sub 13] provides a basis to understand the more extended array in [l brace]Mg[Al(OPr[sup i])[sub 4]][sub 2][r brace][sub 2]. 19 refs., 1 fig.
