Hydrofining process for hydrocarbon containing feed streams

A process is described for hydrofining a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream which contains metals. The process consists of: introducing a treated, decomposable molybdenum compound into the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream, wherein the treated, decomposable molybdenum compound is prepared by reducing the valence state of a decomposable compound of molybdenum and wherein the molybdenum in the decomposable compound of molydbenum is in a valence state of +1 to +6 prior to reduction; and contacting the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream containing the treated, decomposable compound of molybdenum under hydrofining conditions with hydrogen and a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIB, Group VIIB and Group VIII of the Periodic Table.
