Selected questions and answers (Q and A) discussed at a National Petroleum Refiners Association session (St. Paul 10/12-14/77) are given, including those on fluid catalytic cracking and current methods for handling high metals-containing feedstocks, on catalytic reforming and the effects of sulfur in feed and regeneration pressure; on hydrotreating (i.e., problems on alternating between feeds, reactor bed bypassing, and presulfiding of catalysts); and on other units (i.e., problems with Claus units on standby), with delayed cokers owing to silicone antifoamers, with vacuum crude distillation, and with flaring of noncondensables from the vacuum tower.
