A very reactive copper species is produced by reduction of CuI.P(C/sub 3/H/sub 2/)/sub 3/ with a stoichiometric of lithium naphthalide in tetrahydrofuran. The copper undergoes rapid oxidative reactions with allyl, aryl, and vinyl halides. The results are summarized. 15 references, 3 tables.
