Biomass residue utilization for energy in the cornbelt downdraft channel gasifier design, environmental aspects and Decision Support Systems

A unique downdraft channel gasifier concept is described. The quantity and character of particulate (flyash), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and nitrogen oxides (NO/sub x/) emitted from small (<1.5 GJ/h) biomass furnaces and deposited on corn are discussed. A model to predict the fractional particulate removal of a fixed bed of grain is presented. The use of Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Knowledge Based Expert Systems (KBES) is proposed.
