Solar water heating system
An active solar water heating system is described consisting of: (a) a water storage tank, (b) a heat exchanger disposed within the storage tank at a predetermined elevation and having an inlet and an outlet, (c) a solar energy collection unit located above the predetermined elevation and having an inlet and an outlet, (d) a draindown tank located below the heat exchanger and sharing a common solid wall with the storage tank, (e) means for conducting fluid from the heat exchanger to the draindown tank, (f) a drain in the draindown tank, (g) a first conduit connecting the outlet of the solar energy collector and the inlet of the heat exchanger, (h) a second conduit connecting the drain and the inlet of the solar energy collector, (i) and a pump in the second conduit for pumping liquid from the drain through the solar collection unit and from the solar collection unit through the first conduit and the heat exchanger to the draindown tank.
