Peculiarities of the behavior of bubbles near the upper boundary of a fluidized bed, gas flow through them, and motions of particles of the solid phase in the vicinity of a bubble are discussed. It is shown that as single bubbles emerge from the bed, most of the mass of particles ejected into the space above the bed is located in the envelope of solid material raised above the horizontal surface of the bed by the dome of a bubble. A relation is proposed for determining the amount of the solid phase ejected into the space above the bed by gas bubbles breaking at the surface of the bed.
