Emission limits on exhaust stacks in many countries do now require an efficient flue gas cleaning not only on the more extreme conditions associated with incinerators for hazardous waste, but also for municipal solid waste incinerators for hazardous waste, but also for municipal solid waste incinerators. The paper describes the technology and capabilities of the Niro Atomizer (N.A.) dry scrubbing process for absorption of acid gases and reduction of trace elements and particulate emissions. Dry scrubbing of flue gases from power plants and incinerators through spray dryer absorption (SDA) is a relatively new concept, however, based on well proven spray drying and rotary atomizer technology. Specific conditions for SDA plants delivered, operational experience, and emission measurements are presented. Cleaning of flue gases from waste incinerators with teh N.A. spray absorption process provides a number of advantages compared to dry injection and wet scrubbing. In North America the N.A. SDA system is marketed in cooperation with Joy Industrial Equipment Company.
