Aerial photography and image interpretation for resource management

Book ·
OSTI ID:5860656
This elementary textbook emphasizes aerial photo interpretation but includes some photogrammetry and an introduction to nonphotographic remote sensing - a subject of much broader scope. Even though the subject matter is quantitaive, the mathematics involved has been kept as simple as possible. The book is organized into an introduction and five parts. Part One deals with the geometric and measurement aspects of the use of vertical aerial photography that are essential for both the interpretative and photogrammetric aspects of the use of aerial photography. Part Two delves deeper into the photogrammetric aspects of aerial photography. Photogrammetry, as contrasted to photo interpretation, is concerned with making reliable measurements on aerial photographs and the production of maps, both planimetric and topographic. Part Three starts with a chapter on films and filters and a chapter on the principles and techniques of photo interpretation, followed by five chapters emphasizing application. Part Four covers elementary statistics and sampling methods, and aerial photo mensurational techniques for forest inventory. Part Five briefly discussed radiant energy flow plus the scanner and radar systems.
