Evaluation of liquid-gas separator materials for a silver-zinc cell vent. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5860572
The gas permeability of TFE Teflon, FEP Teflon, polyethylene, and microporous Teflon was measured in order to evaluate the suitability of these materials for use as liquid-gas separators for silver-zinc cell vents. Microporous Teflon was found to have ideal characteristics for a liquid-gas separator. This material has a high gas permeability, it is not wetted by electrolyte, and it has a negligible permeability to KOH electrolyte. Microporous Teflon is recommended as the material of choice for liquid-gas separators in silver-zinc battery cells.
