Some variations of properties of coal macerals elucidated by density gradient separation

Conference · · Prepr. Pap. - Am. Chem. Soc., Div. Fuel Chem.; (United States)

Density gradient centrifugation (DGC) was used to separate samples of a high volatile B bituminous coal, PSOC-106, into its components in a continuous aqueous CsCl density gradient. Data are presented showing the distribution of the pure maceral particles as a function of density for the PSOC-106 and the corresponding H/C, S/C, N/C, and O/C ratios for the coal. Substantial variation in the chemical behavior of the macerals has been shown for a number of coals. (BLM)
