Investigations on the applicability of superheated drop detectors in neutron dosimetry

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5857997

Superheated drop detectors (SDD) made of four different liquids have been tested at the US National Bureau of Standards to study their response under irradiation by neutrons ranging in energy from fast to thermal. A comparison of responses and features of SDDs with the ideal neutron dosimeter and other currently used dosimeters has been made. The results, among other important observations, show that SDD made of refrigerant 12 (CCl/sub 2/F/sub 2/), du Pont Trade Name Freon 12) is a promising candidate to be used in neutron dosimetry.
