The Clean Air Air Amendments of 1977 and US Environmental Protection Agency regulations set stringent requirements for the control of emissions in areas where the National Ambient Air Quality Standards were being exceeded. This second edition of four volumes updates a previous five-volume summary of nonattainment area designations and attainment strategies of the states, bringing the information up to date as of December 31, 1981. This edition also includes state information that was presented in another report prepared as a supplement to the first edition - information on Prevention of Significant Deterioration Class I areas and on coal quality and reserves. In addition, the volumes contain new state-level data on power plants, industrial boilers, 1979 SAROAD monitor readings, state implementation plan emission limits for SO/sub 2/ and particulate-matter sources, and maps of counties and Air Quality Control Regions.
