Molten Iron Puregas (MIP) process for coal gasification

Conference · · Proc., Intersoc. Energy Convers. Eng. Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5857045
KHD Humboldt Wedag AG (KHD), Cologne, W-Germany, and Sumitomo Metals (SMI), Osaka, Japan, developed the ''Molten Iron Puregas (MIP'' process for the gasification of coal with oxygen by making use of a liquid iron bath by top and bottom blowing. Both methods will be tested in a pilot plant with a coal gasification rate of 10 t/h. The advantage of the MIP process is based in a very pure quality of the gas (70% CO, 30% H/sub 2/) and a low content of sulfur.
