Structure in the 180/sup 0/ scattering of /sup 12/C by /sup 27/Al

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)

An excitation function for elastic and inelastic scattering at theta/sub c.m./=180/sup 0/ +- 2.0/sup 0/ has been measured for /sup 12/C+/sup 27/Al in the energy range 14 < or approx. = E/sub c.m./ < or approx. = 25 MeV. The data exhibit a strong enhancement at E/sub c.m./ approx. = 19.5 MeV with a width of approx.2 MeV. Elastic scattering angular distributions at E/sub 12/C(lab) =30, 32, 35, and 40 MeV show oscillatory structure in the angle range 40/sup 0/ < or approx. = theta/sub c.m./ < or approx. = 110/sup 0/. It is not possible to describe the elastic scattering data with an energy independent optical model.
