A solar energy collector comprising a parabola shaped mirror formed from a plurality of flexible reflective film strips stretched over a plurality of supports being arranged to position the film in a parabola shape. The supports are held in place by a plurality of trusses. The mirror is pivotally secured to a support assembly whereby the mirror can be maintained at the same relative position to the sun. Positioning of the mirror is controlled by an energy rays tracking device. The supports are adjustable such that light and infrared energy rays striking the film between the supports are reflected to the focus of the mirror around which a collector assembly is located. The collector assembly comprises a surface coated with a black substance which is capable of maximum heat absorption from the light and infrared energy rays; and a contained fluid passing in contact with said surface absorbs and that transfers the heat in order that useful work can be obtained therefrom. The collector assembly is hermetically sealed to minimize heat losses from convection.
