Hydrogenation of crude oil in a pipeline
Patent
·
OSTI ID:5854797
A low viscosity fluid containing at least 40% by vol of free hydrogen and less than 10% by vol of ethane is mixed with crude oil to reduce the viscosity and upgrade the oil while the oil is flowed through a pipeline. Suitable hydrogenating catalysts may be added to the fluid or crude oil. The fluid may be the reaction product of steam and methane. Natural gas produced with the oil may be used to form part of the hydrogen portion of the fluid. (13 claims)
