The temperature behavior of Fe-substituted YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-y/ superconducting system
After the discovery of superconductivity in the YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-y/ system, a large amount of researches have been related to the investigation of the phase structure. High-T/sub c/ YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-y/ superconductor at room temperature is orthorhombic with Pmmm space group. Various authors have reported that the lattice parameters of these superconductors can vary with the content of oxygen. The XRD and the electromicroscopic experiments showed that the oxygen along b axis appeared as an ordered arrangement, in which one dimensional Cu-O chain form might be a necessary condition for superconducting system. Recently it has been reported that in Fe-substituted YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-y/ system, Fe occupied the Cu sites and induced a structural transformation from orthorhombic to tetragonal at room temperature, T/sub c/ was almost unaffected by the substitution of up to 4%. It implies that the superconductivity in copper oxides does not depend on the orthorhombic crystal symmetry. The authors reported the thermogravimetric experiment to determine oxygen content in Fe-substituted YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-y/. It indicated that T/sub c/ of (YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 1-x/Fe/sub x/)/sub 3/O/sub 7-y/ superconductors (chi /le/ 7%) is not very sensitive to their oxygen content although the phase structure has obviously changed. Fe-substitution influenced the orthorhombicity. The phase structure is tetragonal below 180/sup 0/C and transforms to orthorhombic at higher temperatures when chi /le/ 4%. The present work was done to investigate the temperature behavior of Fe-substituted YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-y/ superconductors.
