/sup 26/Mg(p,n)/sup 26/Al and /sup 23/Na(. cap alpha. ,n)/sup 26/Al reactions

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

Total cross sections have been measured for the /sup 26/Mg(p,n)/sup 26/Al reaction from threshold at E/sub p/ = 4.988 MeV to E/sub p/ = 5.820 MeV and for the /sup 23/Na(..cap alpha..,n)/sup 26/Al reaction from threshold at E/sub ..cap alpha../ = 3.483 MeV to E/sub ..cap alpha../ = 4.597 MeV, including separate measurements to the ground and first two excited states of /sup 26/Al. Thermally averaged reaction rates are tabulated over the temperature range 0.1 less than or equal to T/sub 9/ less than or equal to 10 for the respective inverse reactions /sup 26/Al(n,p)/sup 26/Mg and /sup 26/Al(n, ..cap alpha..)/sup 23/Na, leading to the ground state of the exit-channel nuclide with the three lowest states of /sup 26/Al as ''targets.'' These rates are compared to rates calculated on a statistical model. Astrophysical implications with respect to /sup 26/Al nucleosynthesis are discussed.
