Although the mathematics and physics of orifice-meter natural gas flow measurement are relatively simple, a major problem arises in determining and applying the fluid specific weight during a changeover from volume-flow to weight-flow calculations. The ANSI/API 2530 Standard uses static pressure, temperature, specific gravity, and compressibility to compute the flowing specific weight; with new instrumentation, however, which measures specific weight with one device, the engineer need not determine all these factors. Such a device simplifies installation details and reduces signal-transmission costs.
