Determination of the rate constants used in design calculations relating to low-temperature CO/sub 2/--D/sub 2/ gasdynamic lasers

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A comparison of the theoretical values of the gain coefficient with those found experimentally yielded the rate constants of the processes of near-resonant vibrational exchange between CO/sub 2/(01/sup 1/1) and D/sub 2/ (1) (1.59 x 10/sup 3/ Pa/sec), and of the vibrational--translational relaxation of CO/sub 2/(00/sup 0/1) (2 Pa/sup -1/ x sec/sup -1/) and of the bending mode of CO/sub 2/ (4 x 10/sup 2/ Pa/sup -1/ x sec/sup -1/) by interaction with deuterium. The temperature dependences of these constants were obtained in the range 100--800 /sup 0/K. The variation of the vibrational mode temperatures along the nozzle was determined.
