There are three levers that can be manipulated to help control our emissions of CO{sub 2} - increase the efficiency of energy conversion and end-use processes, use fuels with lower carbon content, or sequester the carbon released in energy production. This paper looks at the third lever of carbon sequestration, with a focus on CO{sub 2} separation and capture from fossil fuel-fired power plants. The economics as they exist today are reviewed and pathways for significantly lowering costs are ID identified.
