Electric engine starter

An electric starter is described for cranking an internal combustion engine comprising, first housing means and a pinion for the starter. The first housing means contain pinion driving means, a solenoid having an actuating coil and a shiftable plunger. The solenoid is secured to the first housing means, and a first terminal that is adapted to be connected to a source of direct voltage, first switch contact means disposed within the solenoid connected to the first terminal. The solenoid has a second terminal that has second switch contact means disposed within the solenoid. The second terminal has a portion thereof located within the first housing means, a contactor shiftable by movement of the plunger into engagement with the first and second contact means, an electric cranking motor enclosed by second housing means, and electrical connector means connecting the portion of the second terminal that is located in the first housing means to the cranking motor. The connector means are enclosed by the first and second housing means.
