MHF (massive hydraulic fracturing) treatment design. Part 2. Formation needs are key to fluid and proppant selection

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5850572
One important consideration in any type of fracturing design is the selection of fracturing fluids. Three fluids have been used in MHF treatments: crosslinked hydroxypropyl guar (30 to 60 lb systems), polyemulsion, and foam. This work discusses the properties to be considered in selecting a fracturing fluid (viscosity, fluid loss additives, friction, fluid compatibility, nondamaging, ease of recovery, cost, and safety), proppant selection, and treatment design.
