The invention described is a method for transporting viscous hydrocarbons such as crude oil. The hydrocarbons together with an aqueous solution of an oxylakylated anionic surfactant such as sodium nonylphenol polyoxyethylene sulfonate or a mixture of oxyalkylated anionic surfactants into a pipeline thus forming a low-viscosity, salt-tolerant oil-in-water emulsion. Optionally, the aqueous solution may contain an alkalinity agent. 2 claims.
