New dimensions in geophysics for reservoir monitoring

Advances in geophysical survey techniques have improved surface and borehole methods used for reservoir delineation and description. These same techniques can be used to map changes in reservoir conditions caused by various types of reservoir flooding. This paper discusses reflection and borehole seismic techniques and borehole electrical methods used for secondary and tertiary recovery. The unique aspect of geophysical monitoring is that the surveys are repeated during field development, so changes in geophysical response can be observed. These data can be interpreted by reservoir geologists and engineers to reveal the distribution of the production process and then use in production planning.
