Single-electron capture and direct scattering are investigated in He{sup 2+} collisions with D{sub 2}, O{sub 2}, and N{sub 2} molecules. For D{sub 2}, measurements are made at 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 keV. At the smallest scattering angles, only the exothermic He{sup +}(1{ital s})+D{sub 2}{sup +*} channel is excited. Capture to He{sup +}({ital n}=2)+D{sub 2}{sup +}({ital X}) is found to have a threshold at a reduced scattering angle {tau} near 2 keV deg and its contribution rises rapidly. The direct scattering is primarily elastic. O{sub 2} is studied at 4.0 keV and the capture at small angles is dominated by the quasiresonant He{sup +}({ital n}=2)+O{sub 2}{sup +}({ital X} {sup 2}{Pi}{sub {ital g}}) and the exothermic He{sup +}(1{ital s})+O{sub 2}{sup +*} channels. The direct-scattering channel is electronically elastic for {tau}{lt}1.6 keV deg. N{sub 2} is studied at 4.0 keV. For {tau}{gt}1.0 keV deg electron capture dominates the collision. The capture is predominantly exothermic for {tau}{lt}1.2 keV deg.
