This paper describes the design, implementation, and initial results of the full-field water-injection program in the Ekofisk field of the North SEa. Two pilot waterfloods, injection-well-pattern design, vertical confinement considerations, optimization of production-well sidetracks, core fracture analysis and orientation, regional permeability variations, reservoir geology and faulting, and overall anisotropy are discussed. Results of a comprehensive waterflood surveillance program are presented as well as 3D-model predictions for ultimate recoveries.
