SP-100 space nuclear power system

Conference · · Proc., Intersoc. Energy Convers. Eng. Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5843392
Lockheed and Westinghouse have jointly developed several 100 kWe nuclear reactor space power system concepts under the SP-100 program*. This paper describes the Baseline or reference concept and discusses the major considerations that led to the selection of the specific design features and operating parameters. The SP-100 Baseline system concept is designed to meet all of the stringent SP-100 constraints and space nuclear safety criteria and design requirements. A lithium cooled, compact fast reactor was selected in conjunction with advanced silicon germanium (SiGe), gallium phosphide-doped thermoelectric (TE) converters.
